Critics Choice for Stage Denver Post 2006

The Cripple Creek Players present one classic melodrama each summer, largely as written and performed in the late 19th century. It's surprising in the best sense - the theater, sets, costumes and acting abilities. "My Partner" is surprisingly substantive. While there's plenty of booing bad guys and huzzah-ing heroes, the villain is complex, and our hero's catharsis (after being unfairly accused of his friend's bloody murder), is thoughtful. 2 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, 2 p.m. Thursday, Saturday and Sunday through Sept. 3 at 139 E. Bennett Ave. John Moore

Last Call for Mackin Melodrama

Cripple Creek will soon lose its ties with the community's long-standing theater company, and a family that many say put the town on the state tourist map.  As a result, concerns are mounting about whether Cripple Creek will part ways with its nearly 60-year melodrama legacy...More.

Denver Post 2006

The word "surprising" popped up throughout my first visit to the Cripple Creek Players. It applies in the best sense to their theater, sets, costumes and acting abilities. Best of all, their 2006 offering is surprisingly substantive. "My Partner" is steeped in local and theatrical history.

Gazette Review 2006

In the Cripple Creek Players’ excellent production of “My Partner,” it’s probably significant that I remembered details of Tom Benson’s gorgeous set from the show’s 2000 production, but not even the broad outlines of the story.

Popular Pianist Returns to Cripple Creek Melodrama

New ad curtain shows off the Butte Opera House sponsors, similar to the tradition that was carried on at the Imperial Hotel where Cripple Creek melodrama started in the 1940s.
